Our Story
The Tatsuno Keikokai began as the Shugotenshi Dojo opened by Jason Chambers in Baton Rouge in 1994, as one of the only sources in the state of Louisiana for training in the traditional Japanese martial arts old ancient Japan (Kobudo). We still are one of the few sources of Takamatsuden martial arts taught in the traditional manner in Japan.
Additionally, we offer other study of Japanese weaponry of the samurai age, to include the katana (sword), rokushakubo (staff), kusarifundo (weighted chain), shuriken (throwing blades) and others.
We are proud to be one of few groups in the area that train outdoors. We believe that training in Nature is beneficial to all students as it teaches them to adapt their learning to environments they may find themselves in more often than being in a building with a padded floor. Training in the elements also teaches the student lessons in patience and endurance with having to deal with some of the "discomforts of Nature". It is for this reason that we ask that potential students consider this before applying for admission.
This type of training is not for everyone.
